TAME IMPALA: CURRENTS

The overall appearance of this digipak cover is very typical for a Tame Impala album because it has a striking colour scheme and a vivid design on the front. This allows
the audience to easily identify their albums, which makes them more likely to buy the album. The use of the varied tones of p urple is very effective on this digipak
because it allows the colours to merge as one and present an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Also these purple tones add d epth and highlight, which allows the cover
art to stand out and appear three dimensional, making the cover art appear more intense and impactful. In addition the purple tones allow the yellow, red and pink colours
to pop out and act as an accent colour. As well as this, the colour scheme is successful in being very eye- catching because it is not a conventional colour palette,
making it appear more unique when displayed in shops against other CDs and records. However, this digipack does have a conve ntional look in regards to the bright use of
colour because most digipaks have a vibrant colour scheme, due to it gathering more of an interest from their target audience . I would consider this colour palette more
of a classic and subtle use of colour because it uses the bright, vibrant colour tones in more of a subtle way, rather then a n overwhelming array of bright colours. These
colours create an aesthetic appearance, making the album more pleasing and popular. The same colour scheme is used throughout the entire digipak, which ensures that it
flows from the cover to the back, making it all appear like Tame Impalas work.
The front of this cover is very unique in both concept and appearance, due it consisting of art instead of photography. This is more of a creative response and could be
considered more risky because with photography the band are recognisable through an image, meaning it would be more likely to sell. However, the cover allows the album to
appear different to all the other indie/ alternative genre albums that are on sale at the same time. As well as this the albu m cover is very impactful, due to it
appearing like some kind of optical illusion and having a three dimensional look. Also, it has a very unique look and would b e considered quite abstract due to it not
being the stereotypical image of an electrical current. The appearance of the image on the cover usually has some kind of ref erence to the album name, which is relevant
with this album because the art is identifiable as a current through water. The writing which is present on the cover is very stereotypical for a CD cover because it is
positioned at the top and is very small, so it doesnt detract attention away form the main image. In addition the font is in capital letters, which makes it stand out
from the page and grab the attention of the audience. I like this front cover because it appears very artistic and innovative, which is a similar appearance that I would
like to create with my album cover.
The back of the digipak is very simplistic and minimal with a lined design and the names of the songs are positioned at the t op, in an small concise font. This font size
is very small which is unusual for an album because they usually present the songs in a big font, to ensure that the song can be easily read. I believe that they have
made this font size smaller because it entices people to buy the album and actually listen to the song rather than being dist racted or put off by the names. In addition,
there is a barcode position in the bottom left corner, which is very stereotypical for an album cover because they have to ha ve this to ensure that they can be easily and
efficiently bought from a shop. As well as this there is some small legal print writing up the side of the back cover, which is difficult to read. This could put people
off from buying the record because it is difficult to identify the key information. I personally like this minimal take on th e back cover because it allows the front
cover to be the main point of focus, leading to more sales.
The inside of this album is very effective because it is a similar piece of art which is present on the front of the album co ver, which makes the digipak flow more,
making it overall very aesthetically pleasing to look through. Also the art within it is an extension of the cover image, mak ing the album more intense and exciting
because there is more to look at within the album. There is a limited amount of writing inside the album, which is unconventi onal for an inside digipak because there is
usually writing covering the entire page, which encourages the audience to buy the album. However this shows the popularity o f Tame Impala, that they do not need this
kind of publicity because they are already big within the music industry. It also shows that they are more focused on the visual aesthetics rather then publicity.
I really like this digipak because it is very striking and breaks some of the conventions of digipaks, which makes it more in teresting for me personally. In addition, the
colour scheme really appeals to me because it has quite feminine colours which are extremely vibrant, enabling it to stand ou t. Also I like how the focus is on the image
rather than the writing on the cover and back cover because it makes the album more aesthetically pleasing which is a very im portant aspect for me personally.
HAIM: SOMETHING TO TELL YOU

This digipak portrays the indie music genre visually is a very effective manner, due to the indie fashion style and the conventional indie laidback appearance. The use of
photography within this album is a very conventional visual look for Haim albums because their past albums have also been pho tography based. This builds the band image
and allows the audience to easily identify that the album is by Haim, making their target audience more likely to buy it or b e interested in it.
The colour scheme of this album is very earthy due to the brown and green tones that are present. This colour scheme makes th e overall appearance of the cover more retro
looking because those types of colour tones were utilised in the retro days. This colour palette allows the album to appear m ore unique because this is an unusual colour
scheme due most indie albums consisting of a bright and vibrant colour palette, due to it being more striking. However, I rea lly like the more subtle and minimal
appearance that this colour palette gives this album, which personally makes it stand out more- due to it being unconventional. The outfits worn in the photo coordinate
well with the background because each band member is wearing a different colour to match the look of the setting. Also the co lours help reflect each band members
individuality. The colour scheme flows from the front of the album to the back, making the digipak flow more successfully.
The front cover of this album is focused mainly in the photograph of the band members, due to it filling the entire cover. Th e photo is very in fitting with Haim's
conventional style, which is successful in making it visually appear like their album. In addition, the photo is very relaxed and doesnt look like it was posed for - due
to the natural expressions which they are pulling. This is very effective because it allows the audience to identify Haims f un and charismatic side because they do not
use false expressions, this makes the audience view them more as people, which would make them more inclined to buy the album . In addition the photo is very effective due
to the positioning of the band members. This is because the stance of each of them has been staggered, which allows the audience to look at them in order of their star
image, making the album more recognisable. In addition, it has allowed different angles, making the audience look at each ban d member individually, allowing them to make
a connection with each member. As well as this they are wearing sunglasses which also fits within the indie theme because it shows them relaxed and not too bothered about
their appearance. There is no title showing the band name Haim which is quite unconventional because usually on the front c over the band name and album title are
positioned somewhere. However on this example only the album name is positioned in the middle of the cover, making the album appear more mysterious. I like how the font
is very minimalistic and simplistic because it makes it stand out more but not taking too much attention away for the main fo cus - which is the photography.
The back of the album cover flows effectively from the front cover because it is a similar photo but just zoned out more, to show them in a relaxed walking stance. This
photo similarly appears very relaxed and natural, which adds a more innocent appearance to the album. This makes it more uniq ue because not many album back covers involve
photography because the main focus is the song names, however I really like this look of the photo on the back because it cre ate a bigger impact and makes the album as a
whole more aesthetically pleasing. The main focus is on the photo of the band, similarly to the font cover, which makes the a lbum flow more effectively due to them having
a similar visual appearance. The song names within the album are positioned in the left hand corner and are in a small concis e font, making them blend within the photo
but also allowing it to be easily read by the audience. The barcode is positioned in the bottom right corner which is very ty pical for a album back cover because it
allows the album to be bought from shops, as well as making sure the barcode doesnt ruin or detract attention away from the photograph. In addition the legal text is
positioned at the side of the cover, ensuring that it can be seen but isnt the main focus due to it being presented in a sma ll faint font.
The inside of the album is a collection of photos of the band and images relating to the message of the album. The layout of inside the album is very unconventional
because the stereotypical layout is usually one large image which has been presented over the entire inside. Due to this bein g unusual it will make the audience more
likely to buy the album because the unique look will appeal more than a conventional look. I like how the information appears split up and in columns because it makes it
appear like a magazine article, which gives a more urban and modern feel to the album. The colours within this page coordinat e with the front and back cover, making the
album flow but there is also some other colours added into the appearance - such as blue and red, which makes the album appear more varied, making it appeal to a more
diverse audience. The records which are present within the cover are very simplistic and minimal, matching the clean appearan ce of the overall album. I personally like
this photography based album because it appears very urban and relevant because it shows the band members making it more indi vidual to Haim.
ALVVAYS: ANTISOCIALITES

The overall appearance of this digipak is very stereotypical in relevance to the visual of the album, and is typical of Alvva ys because they usually have a similar bright
colour scheme, unusual visuals and illustrations within the cover somewhere. Also, Alvvays have the consistent style of their album not really flowing from the front
cover to the back cover, due to the front, back and inside having a completely different style and colour scheme, acting as i ndividual pieces of work.
The colour scheme of this digipak is very bright and vibrant and involves all the primary colours such as red, yellow and blu e. Also there is the addition of orange and
lighter blue colours. This kind of bright colour scheme is very typical for an indie genre album because it is the best way of attracting all audiences because it has
been proven that the human eye is more attracted to bright, vivid colours than simplistic, muted colours. This ensures that t his album will be successful because it will
attract a more diverse audience. However this colour palette is not conventionally used because it appears quite random in re levance to stereotypical colour combinations.
Due to this it ensures that this album is unique which proves the strong individuality of the band Alvvays. The colour scheme becomes more muted and pale inside the album
and on the back cover which juxtaposes the bright colour scheme, making the album stand out because the different parts of th e album contrast each other. The actual CD
and record are represented in relatively bright colours, which makes them the focus within the actual album. This makes the a udience more attracted to actually play the
record or CD, making them more likely to buy it. The pale nudes, blues and pinks within the back cover and inside the album c reate an interesting appearance and do not
take the attention away from the front cover, which is what will sell the album because that will be the first point of conta ct and will be the part that will be
displayed in someone's collection.
I personally was very attracted to the front cover of this album because it is very bright and appears unusual because it is both a mixture of photography and
illustration. I like this mixture because I believe that it makes the album appear more creative and innovative which is the kind of look which I favour, but I also like
the idea of there being photography on the cover because it allows the audience to see both imagination and realism. Due to t his, I would say the visual look of this
album is my favourite of the three different ones because I like the mixture of photography and illustration, due to it appea ring like there has been more thought put
into the design and construction of the cover. I like how there has been an effect put on the people of the front cover because it makes it appear more edgy and
stylistic, fitting within the indie genre more effectively. The way that the photography is positioned at the bottom of the c over is very effective because it weighs down
the appearance, allowing the light to be lifted upwards, through the creative coloured pattern cascading out of the rocks. Th e title Alvvays is positioned in the top
right corner is a small font, making the album appear more conventional because the band/artist name is always positioned in one of the top corners of the cover because
it makes it easily identifiable who the album is by. The font that has been used for the band name is the typical font which Alvvays tend to use, making the album more
recognisable for fans. The name of the album is not present on the front cover, which is quite unusual, most of the time artists choose to show the name of their album on
the cover - to encourage the audience to buy it. However, I believe that it works on this album because the name of the album Antisocialites doesnt have any relevance to
the photo/art, which is present on the front of the album - which makes it more of a correct move.
The back of the album is very artistic due to it being full of illustrations, relating to the album name and concept. These k ind of illustrations are very typical of
Alvvays because it is their style for any kind of band art or concert posters that they complete. The illustrations bring int erest into the album by making it more
visually full, due to there being many little drawings filling the space. As well as this, there is the legal print which is positioned at the bottom of the cover,
ensuring it is not ruining the overall appearance of the album.
The inside cover is made up of the exact illustrative print which is present on the back cover, however it is clear of writin g, meaning that it allows the audience to see
the illustrations in more detail, overall making them more interested in the album. On the opposite side of the inside cover, there is a pale background with a small
illustration of an ice lolly and then writing, which is presented in a small but readable font. This is quite stereotypical f or an indie genre album, especially in a CD
digipak because it allows the audience to have both a visually aesthetic as well as an informative element, to make them more likely to buy the album. The CD is
positioned on the right side within the digipak which is the conventional place for it, ensuring easy access for the audience . The CD also has an unusual print on it to
match the unique theme within this album. The name of the band and the song name is positioned on the front of the CD, making sure that it can be identifiable without the
CD digipak. This is common practice because it makes the CD more admirable for the audience due to it being easier for them t o identify it. From analysing this digipak I
have been inspired by the bright and confident use of colour and the use of both illustrative and photography elements on the same cover. Also, I like how they have
decorated their CD cover to stand out from other CDs that are in competition.
