Who is Harriet Jacobs?
● Childhood
○ Shows the naive of children, and how they are blinded
by wanting affection. This later leads Harriet down a
road of later misfortunes and realizations of what life
of a slave really is….
● Goals overall
○ Goal is to achieve awareness to people everywhere of
all demographics, the struggles of living as a slave.

How did she affect the abolitionist
movement?

● The Abolitionist movement


○ She was among the few who were able to read, write,
and go to church among white citizens. This shows
that African Americans could achieve freedom and
citizenship and to live among whites.
● The shock factor
○ Concepts of living in a sheltered world that is revealed
that it is not all that it seems to be….
What makes her important?

● Her life as a slave


● Her most impactful piece
