Introduction

 Field hockey is a game in which two teams attempt to score a goal by using sticks
that are curved at one end.

 Each team is comprised of 11 players, usually 5 forwards, 3 halfbacks, 2 fullbacks,


and 1 goalkeeper and 5 substitutes.

 A match between two teams consists of two halves, each 30-35 minutes in
duration.

History of Indian Hockey

 National game of India.

 First Hockey club established in Calcutta in 1885-86.

 First debut was made in 1928 Amsterdam games.

 First gold medal won in 1928.

 From 1928 to 1956, the Indian hockey juggernaut won six straight Olympic
gold medals, while winning 24 consecutive matches.

Compensation should be based on 3 factors.

1. Fixed Pay

2. Variable Pay

3. Other Benefits
Fixed Pay

 Monthly Salary:

Salary should be based on,

1. The player’s “overall performance” including statistics in all previous seasons.

2. The player’s “overall contribution” contribution to the team’s success or failure.

3. The player’s “special qualities of leadership or public appeal”.

4. The player’s length of service with the team.

 Retainer Fee/ Contract fee:

It will be paid yearly to players of the team based on his grading done by the
Independent monitoring committee consisting of professionals.

Fixed Pay

1. Grade ‘C’:- Rs 15,000/- p.m. with cumulative points upto 200


Having no or little experience of International Hockey.
Must sign "entry-level" contracts at least for first two years.

2. Grade ‘B’:- Rs 20,000/-p.m. with cumulative points upto 400


Must have played at least 30 matches
Sound track record & past performance
His contribution to the overall team performance

3. Grade ‘A’:-Rs. 35,000/-p.m. with cumulative points above 400


Players with consistently outstanding performance
Played more than 30 international matches.
Players with special qualities of leadership or public appeal.
Variable Pay
Each player's index will be compared to those of the others in the
team to determine the amount of his bonus.

Annual Bonus

Individual Player Awards:-

Tournament-wise point totals will be computed for the following categories.

A total sum of individual players awards would be distributed at the end of


season.

Forward of the Year Rs. 2 lakhs
Midfielder of the Year Rs. 1.5 lakhs
Full Back of the Year Rs. 1.25 lakhs
Goalkeeper of the Year Rs. 2 lakhs
Other Benefits
 Travelling and Conveyance:-

All the players will be allowed to travel by 3 tier A/c during the contract period. Any person who
has the contract renewed for 10 times in his life-time will get life-time concession in railways up
to 50%.

 Medical benefits:-

Will get the treatment in all hospitals of the country during contract period.

 Coaching & Training:-

Professional coaches to be appointed to improve playing technique & the team’s performance .

 Tax Exemption:-
Players to be given income tax exemption during contract period.
Retirement Benefits

The life of a competitive hockey player is much shorter. If a player has to make a livelihood and
plan for future, it has to be in these short playing years.

 Tripled Widow and Surviving Children Benefits.

 Disability Benefits.

 Monthly Pension plan for retired players.

 A respectable position in Hockey India.
