THE ENVIRONMENT

The joy in nature is not dimmed for me by the knowledge that

I shall not possess it for ever. We come and pass and are not,
but nature remains, the friend of each of us in turn.
George Macaulay Trevelyan (slightly abridged)
[Quoted in Cannadine, D., G. M- Trevelyan, A Life in History (p.179): London, Fontana, 1993.

What kind of nature will future generations inherit

from us? Nature ruined? A devastated planet?
There are many problems that have to be solved…
Deforestation
Trees provide timber, fruit and shade. They
prevent soil erosion and absorb carbon dioxide,
the main greenhouse gas.
Illegal wildlife trade
Wild birds and other animals provide beauty
and contribute to the balance of nature.
Air, land and water pollution
poisons the earth and causes global warming.
Industrialization
ruins landscapes and produces toxic
waste and greenhouse gases.
Traffic
pumps out billions of tons
of carbon dioxide and other gases.
Rising sea levels
are caused by global warming
and could be catastrophic.
Overfishing
destroys an important source of food
and the balance of nature in lakes and oceans.
THE ENVIRONMENT

And overpopulation. 10 billion people

living like 20th century Americans is just
not a sustainable situation. But here are
some suggestions for solving these
potentially devastating problems…
REDUCING
REUSING
RECYCLING
THE WIND THE SUN

EXPLOITING ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCES

THE SEA THE EARTH
