• When an emergency arises it is always good to know who to call depending on the
severity of the problem. It is never a bad idea to have all local authorities and emergency
responders as part of your emergency contact list in your safety plan.

FACILITIES:

• The facility includes:


• 4 exits all with lit exit signs
• A housing/ holding area for boarding
dogs
• 3 exam rooms, an operating room, a
full pet pharmacy and a laboratory
• There is also a storage room for
oxygen tanks
PHYSICAL/CHEMICAL HAZARDS AND WARNINGS:

• Physical Hazards:
• Heavy lifting
• Infectious materials
• Sharps

• Chemical Hazards/toxic materials:


• Cleaning agents
• Pharmaceuticals
• Isoflurane
SDS:

• Northwoods Pet Care Center had an outdated MSDS:


• The MSDS tells what the hazardous materials are, how reactive they are, clean up if there is a spill, first
aid, fire hazard, etc.

• I updated their MSDS by researching the chemicals/ hazards they used


• Isoflurane
• Isopropyl alcohol
• Chlorhexidine

• I have put a new MSDS folder with the updated material sheets located in the laboratory setting where the
materials are currently used.
BIOLOGICAL AND ZOONOTIC HAZARDS:

• These hazards include:


• Bacteria: • Parasites
• Salmonella • Ring Worm

• CTOX(D-diff) • Tape Worm

• Usually caused by fecal contamination • Round Worms


• By handling an infected animal
• Virus’s
• Avian Flu
• Hepatitis A
• Contact with infected animal(open wound)
PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT(PPE)

• Eyewear:
• Safety glasses • Shoes
• To protect your eyes when doing teeth • To keep toes safe and feet clean from
cleanings/UV light therapy feces and injury
• Non skid
• Gloves:
• Rubber soled
• To keep hands clean of chemicals and bacteria
• Not open toed
• Rubber/neoprene
SANITIZATION:

• When cleaning the clinic: • Durable clothing


• Wear non slip shoes • Usually scrubs

• Closed toe • Chemical cleaning agents


• Rubber sole • Know how to properly use the
• Gloves autoclave
• To protect hands from bacteria • Do routine maintenance on
autoclave to ensure proper
sanitization
