Seventeenth Century
During the 17th century the education in America was taught through the family, apprenticeships, dame
schools, and tutors
Eighteenth Century
During the 18th century, the nation started to show an interest in education, the
states were starting to gain responsibility of education and secondary education
began.
Ninetieth Century
During the 19th century, America saw an increase in the role of public education.
the increase was due to the increasing education of segregated minorities and
women and the need put into the education system and teacher preparation.
Twentieth Century
The 20th century bought federal support for educational rights of the
underachieving students and more federal money to categorical education
programs
Twenty-First Century
The 21th century has bought increased focus on standards, testing, and
accountability
