ECOSYSTEM
 An ecosystem is a community of
organisms interact with their non living
environment and function as a unit.
Colonisation
1.Colonisation takes place in newly formed
areas where no life previously existed.
2.The first colonisers appear on ground
without soil are called pioneer species.
3.Pioneer species=hardy plant(grasses,
ferns)
4.Pioneer species modify the environment,
thus establish conditions that are more
conducive to other species called
successor species.
5.Successor species=herbaceous
plant(dandelions and weeds)
6.Shrub become new dominant species that
grow faster and dominate the slower
growing pioneer and successor species.
Succession
1.Gradual pricess in which one community
changes the environment so that it is
replaced by another community is called
succession.
2.Ecological succession leads to a relatively
stable community which in equilibrium with
its environment is called climax
community.
