What is OTN?
• Open Transport Network (OTN) is a fiber optics based
multiplexer for voice, data, video and LAN applications.
• OTN provides pre-allocated services for applications.
• OTN is a distributed system allowing dynamic switching
for video and audio
• OTN has built-in redundancy
• OTN is not a bandwidth on demand, but dedicated
bandwidth at all times regards of system loading.
• OTN provides the best features of TDM and Ethernet in
the same product platform.
• OTN is not protocol, but rather physically oriented to
best integrate easily with applications equipment.
OTN Application Areas

Stretched or vast coverage

Multiple applications

Non-stop environment
Example: Railways, Metros,
Lightrails
What is the common element in
these areas?
 Mixed service requirements.
 Very high reliability, redundancy requirements
 High bandwidth requirements
 Operations critical, 24X7X365 system operations
 Security aspect.
 Need for low cost of ownership.
 Industrial strength equipment.
 Environmental conditions.
 Dedicated, always available communications.
 Network expansion/alterations without disruption.
 Can span long distances.

OTN Management
System (OMS)
1.Configuration of Hardware
• Nodes
• Transceivers
• Interface Cards
2.Configuration of Services
3.Monitoring + Logging + Reporting
4.Alarm Management
5.Visualizing Network Recovery
6.OMS can be connected to any of the nodes in the network
7.Manages all types of OTN networks
8.Multi user, client-server technology
9.Manages multiple subnetworks (rings) simultaneously
10.Runs on standard PC under Windows NT/2000/XP
Video over OTN
1. OTN behaves like a distributed video matrix
2. Features and video image quality of analog CCTV
3. Reliability and flexibility of digital fiber transmission
4. OVS provides a platform for Multi-vendor integration
5. Based on standards:

OPC (OLE for Process Control)

Microsoft DCOM
6.Open to non-standard CCTV equipment through
Universal Protocol Handler

Just Imagine a Network
• Like a private superhighway (150 - 600 - 2500 Mbps)

• That never goes down

• Never goes out of date (future proof)

• Never gets in the way (transparent)

• Spans any distance (>1000 km)

• Hooks up what you like (investment protection)

• Takes a day to install (plug & play)

• Is child’s play to manage

• And easy to afford
