What is LPG ?
• LPG means Liquidified Petroleum Gases
• LPG mainly Comprises – Butane & Propane
• LPG – Colorless & Odorless gas.
• Artificial odor named Ethyl Mercapten added for
identification.
• Boiling Temperature: Butane – 020 C, Propane -420 C
• Pressure: 70% Butane & 30% Propane 4-5 bar @ 200 C
Major Causes of LPG Kitchen Fire
• Fire from Gas Leakage
• Poor maintenance of cylinder & work space
• Unattended Cooking
Major Causes of LPG Kitchen Fire
• Fire from Gas Leakage
– Hose with holes or worn-out hose connecting LPG and the stove
– Poor maintenance of stove
– Not switching off the cylinder or stove when not in use.

– How to Prevent
• Keep tube away from heat, check regularly and change hose if worn
• Keep stove clean after use
• Always turn off stove & regulator after every use
Major Causes of LPG Kitchen Fire
• Poor maintenance of cylinder & work space
– Store combustible materials near LPG, eg: wood, cloth, paper, etc.
– Store the LPG in other than upright position
– Store two gas cylinders in the same place.
– Storing LPG cylinders in wet placed (may lead cylinder corrosion)
– Keeping LPG cylinder in poorly vented place

– How to Prevent
• Don’t Store combustible materials near LPG, eg: wood, cloth, paper, etc.
• Don’t Store two gas cylinders in the same place.
• Store the LPG always in upright position
• Store LPG cylinders in dry placed on ground level. Never store under
ground.
• Keep LPG cylinder in well vented place

• Unattended Cooking
– Leaving cooking station while cooking is
prohibited
– Always be attentive during cooking

• Use water and sand to extinguish small fire

• Use water and fire extinguisher to extinguish
medium fire
In case of Fire What to do?
• In case of Massive Fire: Call 999
