Picture Reveal

Game
 Peel away layers of puzzle to reveal
hidden shape underneath.
 Select which block or layer to
remove. Teacher clicks that space to
reveal a portion of the shape.
 If you can then guess the shape
underneath you get a prize, otherwise it
continues to the next student.
Field Types
Regular shapes Irregular shape
Objectives
At the end of 60 minutes, the students are
expected to achieve 80% proficiency on the
following:
a. Identify the shape of a farm;
b. share ideas on the importance of
determining the surface area of a farm ;
and
c. calculate the surface area of a farm.
Activity
“Old MacDonald had a farm”
Directions:
Sketch a farm/field area using the
shapes that you have seen and identified
earlier.
Put your desired measurement on
each side of the field.
You have 10 minutes to finish the task

Based on your
activity can you
now identify the
shape of a farm?
How important is
the identification
of the shape of a
farm?
Always remember that
the very first thing to do
when calculating the
surface area of a farm is
to identify its shape.
Surface Area is the
total area that the
surface of a farm
occupies
Field with regular shape
Field with rectangular shape
Given:
Length of the field = 50m
Width of the field = 30 m

Formula:
A= L x W
= 50 m x 30 m
= 1500m2
What is the area
of the same field
expressed in
hectares?
1 hectare is equal to 10,000m2.

Area of the field in hectare

= 1500m 2

10,000m 2

= 0.15 ha
Field with irregular shape
Division of irregular field into
regular areas
Surface area of the SQUARE:
As= length x width = 30m x 30m = 900m2

Surface area of the RECTANGLE:

Ar= length x width = 50m x 15m = 750m2

Surface area of the TRIANGLE:

At = 0.5 x base x height = 0.5 x 20m x 30m = 300m2

Total Surface area of the field:

As+ Ar+At = 900m2 + 750 m2 + 300m2 = 1950m2
If you are a farmer,
how important to you
is the determination
of the surface area of
your farm?
 Using the same group, identify the
surface area of the field.
 Express your answer in hectare.
 You have 5 minutes to finish the
task.
