• to describe two states that have existed since a time in the past:
Since I have known him, he has always worn the same sweater.

Since I have met him, he has always worn the same sweater.

• In time clauses (after when, as soon as, until, before, etc.) we use the
Present Perfect to refer to the future:
It will be the first time he has been nominated for a literary award.
