EPCC

EPCC
Engineering, Procurement, Construction and
Commissioning (EPCC) is a particular form of
contracting arrangement used in construction
industries where the EPCC Contractor is made
responsible for all the activities from design,
procurement, construction, to commissioning and
handover of the project.

Spirit of Innovation
Engineering It is a decision making process (often
iterative) in which the basic sciences, mathematics,
and engineering sciences are applied to convert
resources optimally to meet a stated objective. There
is 2 Engineering phase :
1. Basic Engineering
2. Detail Engineering

5
Spirit of Innovation
Basic Engineering Design (BED)

Basic Engineering Design (BED) package refers to

the bonded information that is required to perform
the detail engineering design of the projects. Basic
Engineering Design generally contains :
1. Engineering Specification
2. Datasheet
3. Study
4. Engineering Calculation
6
Spirit of Innovation
Detail Engineering
Detailed engineering are studies which creates a full
definition of every aspect of a project development.
It includes all the studies to be performed before
project construction starts. Detailed Engineering
generally contains :
1. Detail Design
2. Material Take-Off (MTO)
3. Fabrication/Installation Drawing

Engineering Deliverable List
• IFR (Issued For Review)
Means that drawings or documents are Issued for internal
or external review
• IFA (Issued For Approval)
Means that documents or drawings are issued for client to
review and approval to use of them for further
developments or activities
• IFC (Issued For Construction)
Drawings and documents which are categorized as the
review, and Issued for Construction.

Piping Material
• Piping Material Engineer is required from Bid
Stage, through design, construction and
mechanical completion stages
• Performs wall thickness calculations of pipes
• Develop Piping Material Specifications for Process
and Utility Services
• Prepare Material Take-Off (MTO)

11
Spirit of Innovation
Piping Stress
• Perform Stress analysis
• Develop engineering computations and
evaluations
• Review vendor drawing submittals and conduct
technical bid evaluation
• Submitting Stress Analysis Reports to the Client
and getting their approval

Stress Critical Line List
Engineering organization in this field has set up some guidelines for
deciding which lines are to be stress analyzed using software
(Caesar II, Autopipe). The main factors which decide stress critical
lines are as follows:
• Line design/operating/upset temperature
• Equipment connection
• Pipe and Equipment material
• Pipe condition
• Pipe thickness

13
Spirit of Innovation
Piping Design
• Discuss all pertinent problems encountered
during design stage
• Check piping design drawing of vendor shop
• Complete isometric drawings and piping layout as
needed
• Plan, arrange and schedule work activities for
piping team

14
Spirit of Innovation
Procurement

15
Spirit of Innovation
Procurement is the process of
finding, agreeing terms and
acquiring goods, services or works
from an external source. The
process is used to ensure the buyer
receives goods, services or works
at the best possible price, when
aspects such as quality, quantity,
time, and location are compared
16
Spirit of Innovation
Construction

17
Spirit of Innovation
Construction is the process of
constructing a building or
infrastructure. Large-scale
construction requires
collaboration across multiple
disciplines.

18
Spirit of Innovation
Pre Commissioning

19
Spirit of Innovation
The Pre-commissioning (PC) is one of the construction
activity that involves the verification of functional operability
of elements within the system to achieve a state of readiness
for the Commissioning. Example of Pre-Commissioning :
• Flushing
• Pneumatic Test
• Hydrostatic Test
• Chemical Cleaning/Pickling
• Steam Blowing

20
Spirit of Innovation
Flushing
Flushing can be defined as the act of
pumping water, in sufficient
quantity and velocity, through a of
pipe, completely filling that section
of pipe, such that the flow of water
through the system will forcibly
remove any construction debris
from the system.

21
Spirit of Innovation
Pneumatic Test
Pneumatic testing is a technique to
prove the mechanical strength and
integrity of pressure containing
components in a system. The purpose
of pneumatic strength testing is to
verify that a system may be safely
subjected to its maximum operating
pressure

22
Spirit of Innovation
Hydrostatic Test

A hydrostatic test is a way in

which pressure vessels such
as pipelines, plumbing, gas
cylinders, boilers and fuel
tanks can be tested for
strength and leaks.

23
Spirit of Innovation
Mechanical Completion (MC)

24
Spirit of Innovation
Mechanical Completion is a
milestone in an EPC contract
declares that a plant has been built
per engineering specifications, all
materials and equipment have been
installed and hydro-tested, and all
the electrical and instrumentation
installations have been completed

25
Spirit of Innovation
Commissioning

26
Spirit of Innovation
Commissioning is the process of
assuring that all systems and
components of a building or industrial
plant are designed, installed, tested,
operated, according to the operational
requirements.

Heat Mass Balance
Heat and mass balance is a document produced by
process design engineers while designing a process
plant. Normally a heat and mass balance sheet reports
following data for a process stream.
• Normal operating temperature and pressure.
• Density at normal operating temperature and
pressure conditions
• Normal volumetric or mass flowrate.
• If gases are present, vapor fraction should be

Process Data Sheet
A Process Data Sheet is generally relates to a
single item of equipment and contains the
essential process data for initiating the detail
design of an item. A Process Equipment Data
Sheet describes the fundamental data necessary
to start discipline wide specific engineering in
the mechanical, structural, piping, control
systems, and electrical areas
33
Spirit of Innovation
Mechanical Data Sheet
A Mechanical Data Sheet is developed by the
mechanical engineer after a process engineer
initiated and provided the equipment process
data sheets with other disciplines information.
The mechanical engineer uses the process data
sheet and further develops mechanical details
including equipment sizes
