UNIVERSAL VALUES
• Worship only God
"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel,
the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all
your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all
your strength.‘
• Don't be self-righteous
Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. For with the
judgment you make you will be judged, and the measure you give
will be the measure you get. Why do you see the speck in your
neighbor's eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye? Or how
can you say to your neighbor, 'Let me take the speck out of your
eye,' while the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the
log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the
speck out of your neighbor's eye.
• Don't hold a grudge
You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell
you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek,
turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your
tunic, let him have your cloak as well.- You have heard that it was said,
'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies
and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father
in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends
rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
• Forgive others
If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive
you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins
• Be humble
• Be honest
• “Love the neighbor”: neighbor, in terms of business, are those who work in the
organization itself. The term ‘love’ in this verse refers to form the basis of the family
type of cultural environment that many businesses strive to achieve in the workplace.
Good businesses succeed because of the ethical bond they form with employees.
• “Thou shalt not bear false witness”, “thou shalt not steal”;
These verses present the ethical value of ‘honesty and trust’. All researchers promote
the values of the honesty and trust as being critical to the building of business
relationships. Honesty in terms of advertising, marketing, financial issues and the like
are of sheer importance.
In addition to the above, the influence that the Bible has upon ethical business
practices is also dependent upon the individuals who lead the organization. It is not
the fact that the ethical values might be incorporated within the business code of
practice, but also they will have to see these values reinforced in practice.
ERADICATION OF SOCIAL EVILS
"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O
Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.
• Excessive attention to material things such as houses,
cars, clothes, jewelry, physical appearance,
entertainment, etc.
• Pursuit of wealth, power, fame, pleasure or status
• Excessive devotion to self, job, hobbies, country,
ideologies, heroes, leaders, even family.
• After saying "Love the Lord your God" is the most
important of the commandments, Jesus continued,
• The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
There is no commandment greater than these.“
• Jesus gave a list of actions that constitute immoral uses of the body:
evil thoughts, murder, adultery, theft, false testimony, slander,
greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, arrogance and foolishness.
The apostle Paul gave similar lists.
• It is not our right to look down on, criticize, judge, condemn, or try to
control other people. Judgment is to be left to God. Jesus said,
• You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate
your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for
those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father
in heaven.
• If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father
will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father
will not forgive your sins. (NLT, Matthew 6:14-15)

• the Bible has many foundation principles that when practiced will
lead to an effective life. These foundation tenets can be found
throughout the entire volume, especially in the first five books of the
Bible; the Psalms and Proverbs; the prophetic literature; the
accounts of Jesus' life on earth; and the letters written and
circulated by his disciples.
• As direct instruction, the Book of Proverbs serves as the best
comprehensive source for how to conduct life in a successful
manner. Most of the wise sayings are attributed to Solomon, the
third king of ancient Israel. There are golden nuggets tucked within
the text concerning many topics related to everyday problems and
reactions.
• Most of the nuggets are not specifically addressed to business
situations but can be easily adapted to the business environment.
• Bible has many examples of good, mediocre and poor management
practices.
• The fact that the Biblical text includes both good and bad examples
of management practices lends to its credibility as a guide in
business affairs.
