AUTOMATIC WATER

TAP USING ARUDINO

BY SHRUTI SANT
INTRODUCTION

• In this competitive world everyone are busy in their official works and other personal
works so that they don't have sufficient time to complete other works at home such as
plant watering and other works.
• Everybody is also interested in making their work automated. People may be interested in
control of lighting, control of air conditioner and heating appliances, security locks of gates
and doors and other systems.
• In our project we have provided solution to this problem in a very simple yet
reliable way.
• We have designed an automated tap system which will save fresh water,
and with that we have also designed a system which will recycle grey water.
WORKING PRINCIPAL

• In this project we have made automated tap system using Arduino uno and Sonar sensor,
to solve the problem of wastage of water in our daily life.
• It might not appear big at the first time, but if your tap dripped a drop of water once
every second it would take only about five hours for you to waste one gallon of water,
that is enough water for an average human to survive for two days. So what can be done
to stop this? As always the answer, for this, lies with improvement in technology.
ARDUINO UNO

• Arduino Uno is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega328P .It has 14 digital
input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz
quartz crystal, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header and a reset button. It
contains everything needed to support the microcontroller; simply connect it to a
computer with a USB cable or power it with a AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get
started..
SONAR SENSOR

• The Concept behind the Automatic Water Tap is very simple. We will use a HCSR04
Ultrasonic Sensor to check if any object such that the glass is placed before the
dispenser. A solenoid valve will be used to control the flow of water, which is when
energised the water will flow out and when de-energised the water will be stopped. So
we will write an Arduino program which always checks if any object is placed near the
tap, if yes then the solenoid will be turned on and wait till the object is removed, once
the object is removed

ADVANTAGES

• Wastes less water : Water conservation of up to 70%.

• Easy to use, easier to install.
• Affordable (Entry-level sensor taps costs no more than 30% of normal taps).
• Hygienic Solution.
• Save money on water bills and energy consumption.
• Advance infrared sensor technology.
• Sensor customization via a remote control (sold separately).
• Auto Flush option available.
• Easy to Maintain and Service
• Fast Sensor ActivationResponse

FUTURE SCOPE

• Whether it’s leaving the water running while brushing one’s teeth, or
forgetting to shut the tap after the bathtub has been filled, there’s no denying
that a lot of people’s bad habits lead to avoidable water wastage. A faucet
releasing three drips a minute wastes a liter more than one liter a day, or
approximately 104 gallons a year. A single drop of water may not seem much,
but when the numbers add up, the results are significant.

CONCLUSION AND REFERENCES

• Automatic faucets are common in public washrooms, particularly in airports and hotels, where they are
supposed to reduce water consumption. (however, some evidence to the contrary has been published)
and reduce the transmission of disease causing microbes.
• They can also be found in some kitchens and in the washrooms of some private residences. Other uses
include providing drinking water to pets or livestock, whereby the presence of an animal allows water to
flow into a watering trough or dish. The following are the references that helped us in our work:
