Performance Objective 1: Geometry and Measurement:

The student is expected to:

• (E) classify and sort a variety of regular and irregular two- and
three-dimensional figures regardless of orientation or size.
This type of activity can be used in Pre Kindergarten classroom
because it will reinforce to classify different shapes as well as sort
them and make a figure.

Performance Objective 2: Geometry and Measurement:

The Student is expected to:
• (F) create two-dimensional shapes using a variety of materials
and drawings.
This type of activity can help students to use their imagination to
create other thing such as, animals or people with shapes and let
their imagination grow. Students will also be reviewing what they
learn in class while they are interacting with other students.

Transformations
Definition
• A transformation is a general
term for four specific ways to
manipulate the shape of a point, a
line, or shape.
• The original shape of the object
is called the pre-image
• The final shape and position of
the object is the image under
the transformation.

3
Example of
Transformation
• A transformation is divide into
different category such as
• Translation
• Reflection
• Dilation
• Rotation

This is a golf game about

transformation in where you
need to make a hold in one. This
is a great idea to practice at
home and during center time.

5
• What is Translation?
• In a translation transformation all the points
in the object are moved in a straight line in
the same direction.
• The size, the shape and the orientation of
the image are the same as the original
object.
• Same orientation means that the object and
image are facing the same direction.

6
Example

• Triangle △ABC has coordinates A(3,−1),B(7,−5) and

C(−2,−2). Translate △ABC to the left 4 units and up
5 units (red triangle). Determine the coordinates of
△A′B′C′ (blue triangle).
• Graph △ABC . To translate △ABC, subtract 4 from
each x value and add 5 to each y value of its
coordinates.
• The button image a translation is a transformation
that moves every point in a figure the same distance
in the same direction.

integrative translation.

Reflections
• Reflection is a type of transformation
where each point in a shape appears at an
equal distance on the opposite side of a given
line - the line of reflection.
• To do reflection a compass can be used, to
measure the exact shape and reflected in
the other side of the coordinate plane.
• Reflection can be done:
• Horizontally.
• Vertically.
• Diagonally.

9
1. Measure from the point to 2. Measure the same distance 3. Then connect the new dots
the mirror line (must hit the again on the other side and up!
mirror line at a right angle) place a dot.

Tricks ( you can level each

corner of the figure) it can be
ABC.

GIF of a Reflection and a better
idea on where the reflection can
go.

Rotation
What is Rotation?
• A rotation is a transformation that turns a
figure about a fixed point called the center
of rotation.
• An object and its rotation are the same
shape and size, but the figures may be
turned in different directions.
• Rotations may be clockwise or
counterclockwise

Example of Rotation
Lets Draw a rotation
• Given the center of rotation and the angle of rotation
we can determine the rotated image of an object.
Example:
• Determine the image of the straight line XY under an
anticlockwise rotation of 90˚ about O.

ADD A FOOTER 13
Example continue

Solution:
• Step 1: Join point X to O.
• Step2: Using a protractor, draw a line 90˚ anticlockwise
from the line OX. Mark on the line the point X such that the
line of OX = OX.
• The image will look like the on that is on the right when you
label it and connect all the points.
• A good technique that I will
• give you is to used color pencil and used one color for the
pre image and another color of the image.
