Issues in employee health and safety

An organizational approach to safety is effective only when both the work


design and employee behavior work in condition towards it.
 Physical work settings: includes temperature, noise level and proper
lighting , size of work area kind of material used , distance between work
area etc.
 Sick building syndrome: it is the situation in which employees
experience acute health problems and discomfort due to the time spent in
a building.

Factors that lead to sick buildings includes poor air quality ,


inadequate ventilation and improper cleanliness .
Ergonomics

The term Ergonomics comes from the greek word ergon, which
means “work” and omics which means “management of”.

Ergonomics is the study of physiological, psychological and


engineering design aspects of a job including such factors as
lightning ,tools , equipment layout and placement of control.
It is the interface between men and machine.
Ergonomics is taken into consideration when designing the
workstation for the computer operators .problem of back ache
,eyes strain and headache arise due to long working hours spent in
front of computers.
