Communication comes
from the Latin word
“communis” which means
commonness. This means
that communication is
common to humans.
 The act or process of
using words, sounds,
signs, or behaviors to
express or exchange
information or to
express your ideas,
thoughts or feelings,
etc. to someone else.
“Communication in
its most basic sense,
is the cement that
holds society
together.” –Maslog
(1988)
Oral communication is
the act of receiving
words by the hearing
mechanism and
transmitted by the
voice.
Oral communication
involves both verbal
stimuli (words) and non-
verbal cues (gestures,
facial expressions,
intonation, stress, etc.)

1. Verbal- relating or

2. Non-Verbal- consists

etc.

1. Participants-
consists of the sender
who encodes the
messages while the
speaker decodes the
messages.
2. Context- refers to

conditions which
include the physical
environment, social,
psychological, cultural,
and historical.
Physical- the place, time,
condition like noise,
temperature, lightning,
distance between or
among communicators
Social- relationship
between or among
communicators
Psychological- moods or
feelings of communicators
Cultural- beliefs, values,
norms shared by a group
of people
Historical- background of
the participants based on
previous communication

the meanings, ideas
or information that

4. Channel- is the means of
accessing the messages
through visual channel which
refers to light that carries the
non verbal symbols and
through auditory channel
which refers to sound that
carries verbal symbols.

effectiveness of the
