BLUE CHIPS COMPUTERS-THE CASE
IN A NUT SHELL
Manjula Srivastav
Head of Marketing since 4 years at Blue Chips.
She is skilled ,has proved herself and is good with the
company’s dealers.
Has to fight male prejudices and prove herself regularly to
keep up.
Has to battle odds with subordinates and peers due to the
above and expresses her displeasure.
6 months ago, the company is taken over by an industrial
group with diverse business interests.
Core management team remains the same whereas the
new MD is Anand Prakash.
CONTD..
Exports being the MD’s main concern, he brings in Harish Naik as
executive assistant with special responsibility for exports.
Naik is promoted as the VP(exports) only after 2 months being second
to Srivastav and recieves better compensation and perks than her own.
Srivastav protests.
On restructuring, Srivastav is given the post of GM(public affairs)
rather than what she deserves – VP(home marketing) being given to
Naik.
Srivastav argues on how unfair this is to her and indicates gender bias
in her argument.
Prakash assures importance in the firm.
Srivastav has second thoughts.
Problems

Male prejudices-growing displeasure

Take over of the company
Changing concern of the company
towards exports.
Person seconded by srivastav, now
above her
Newly appointed Harish Naik –
promoted as VP for exports
(within two months).
Higher compensation and perks
than Srivastav.
Internal recruitment.
Biased decisions from the MD.
Feeling of lack of recognition – even after
increase in turnover of the company
during difficult times
Srivastav disappointed – as she was
expecting to be promoted as vice
president (home marketing) may result in
demotivation even if new position is
given to her
Competency mapping
