HRM POLICY
Definition:
 A policy provides generalized guidance on the approach adopted
by the organization , and therefore employees, concerning various
aspects of employment.
 HR policies are continuing guidelines on the approach the
organization intends to adopt in managing people.
 They define philosophies and values of the organization.
 They help the way things are done around here.

decisions are made.

HR POLICY AREAS
HR Policies can be expressed as Overall statements of the values of the

Organization.

Overall Policy:- The Overall Policy defines how the Organization fulfils its

social responsibilities for its employees and sets out its attitudes towards

them.

The Overall HR Policy is based on the following Concepts ; They are:-


Equity.

Consideration.

Organizational Learning.
Performance through People.
Work Life Balance.
Quality of Working Life.

FORMULATING HR POLICIES
The following steps has to be taken to formulate and implement HR
Policies:
 Understand Organization Culture and Core Values.
 Existing Policies should be analyzed.
 External factors such as, Employee legislation, Employee community and
Regulatory board should be analyzed and consulted.
 Assess any new area, where new Policies should be implemented and when
existing are inadequate and outdated.
 Communicate the HR Policies, provide guidelines and training are
compulsory.
 Seek the views from Unions, and Employee Commission.

IMPLEMENTING HR POLICIES
 Line managers play a Key Role.
 Purcell et al (2003).
 HR Policies should be implemented Fairly and Consistently.
 Organization Design should be Favourable.
 Necessary Training, Guidance and Support should be provided to
the Managers.
 According to Purcell et al “ It is the Line Managers who bring HR
policies to Life”.
