Process Summary
Grade/Step Progression is:
• A business process that determines the
grades/steps to which employees are eligible to
progress based on their current grades/steps
• Commonly used by the public sector, educational
institutions, as well as highly regulated, hourly-
paid organizations such as retail organizations or
those subject to collective bargaining
• Also used in commercial companies, e.g. for sales
organizations
• A Compensation Administrator’s tool that reduces
administration, eliminates bias, ensures internal
equity
