P4L Primary Projects

35 schools between 2006/09 Predominantly funded by independent donations but ten of the partnerships, beginning in January and September 2008 supported through government funding. One of two projects cited in rose Report 2009

Results - January 2006 July 2008

2,511 children were screened across 21 primary schools on average that the bottom 20 per cent of children made significant gains in reading. Reading: 42 per cent of 500 children with most severe difficulties moved from the below average range to average. Those with the most pronounced difficulties made some progress and were not seen to fall further behind their peers, as is often the case.

Satisfaction Ratings and Comments

On average the head teachers across the 21 primary schools scored the usefulness of the training as 5.3 (where 1 is least helpful and 6 is most helpful). The scores were the same for the sustainability of the project across all 21 primary schools.

Active Literacy Kit

With P4L you can make 5 minutes count! The teaching materials allow us to focus on teaching the children and not on paperwork because they do all the reporting and monitoring for us; and one exercise informs the next. Teresa Critcher, SENCO at Our Lady of Lourdes

I love the game where you have to feel the letters and work out what they are without looking Michael aged 10
The Active Literacy Kit is a comprehensive package of high quality support materials. Initial assessment provides vital baseline information and the means to construct effective action plans. The accompanying manuals give detailed information on the use of materials and a variety of photocopiable resources. The children enjoyed working through the carefully graded exercises and are motivated by the time challenges. Teresa Critcher, SENCO at Our Lady of Lourdes

I like doing the alphabetical rainbow [ALK] and doing spelling on the computer [UofS]. Eleanor (Aged 8)
