PRODUCT OVERVIEW
INTRODUCTION
With the popularization of IP network and the trend of triple play services, the MetropolitanArea Network (MAN) is bearing more services and the quality of transmission is highlyrequired. In this case, Huawei develops the Quidway CX200A and the Quidway CX200B metro services platforms (hereinafter referred to as the CX200) that can access, converge, and transmit services. The CX200 can be deployed at the access and convergence layer of the MAN where the CX200 can converge different services of the lower layer network and then access the upper layer network. The services are as follows: Voice services of Next-Generation Network (NGN) Video services of IPTV and Video-on-Demand (VOD) IP Radio Access Network (RAN) services Virtual Leased-Line (VLL) services of very important client Data services of broadband access

INTRODUCTION
The Quidway CX200 Metro Services Platform (hereinafter referred to as the CX200) is based on a well-developed packet forwarding architecture. The CX200 is positioned at the access and convergence layer on the Metropolitan Area Network (MAN). At present, the CX200 Metro Services Platform is of three types: the CX200A, the CX200B, and the CX200C.

Hardware Structure
Hardware components of the CX200 are centralized for management. System units and cables of the CX200 are accessible from the front panel. The CX200 hardware components include the following parts: Chassis Backplane Power module Fan module Switch Control Unit (SCU) Service Interface Card (SIC) The CX200 can be mounted in either the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) or the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 297 cabinet.

SCU
The SCU is used to exchange packets and manage the device. The SCU consists of a control unit, a switch unit, and an interface unit.

For the CX200, the Ethernet, interfaces are specified by "slot number/sub-card number/interface number", such as Ethernet x/y/z, GigabitEthernet x/y/z,
where: x stands for the slot number, as shown in Figure 4-1. y stands for the sub-card number that is usually 0 because there is no sub-card for the CX200. z stands for the interface number, as shown in Figure 4-3.

Switch Control Unit The CX200 supports the following types of the SCUs: The CX200A: supports the 24-port 100M Ethernet Optical Interface Switch Control Unit, or the SCUC for short. The CX200B: supports the 24-port 100M Ethernet Electrical Interface Switch Control Unit, or the SCUB for short. The CX200C: supports the 2*GE (SFP), 16*FE (SFP), and 8*FE (RJ45) Mixed Interface Switch Control Unit, or the SCUD for short.

Introduction The SCU switches Layer 2 packets in the Ethernet and manages the whole device. The SCU also provides external service interfaces. The SCU is fixed in the CX200A, CX200B, or CX200C and cannot be plugged. The SCU is composed of the control unit, the switch unit and the interface unit. Control unit The control unit consists of the CPU module, control module, and power module. The CX200 supports multiple management approaches. The management information about components is sent to the CPU through corresponding management channels. The CPU: Initiates the chips working for the data link layer and physical layer and is in charge of the dynamic management of the chips. Forwards the packets, and monitors the status of the SICs. The control module consists of two parts, the Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and Complex Programmable Logical Device (CPLD). This module: Collects and processes the information about the status of cards. Switches the interfaces. The power module: Facilitates hot swap. Generates the working voltage. Adjusts the time sequence when the power is on or off. Switch unit The CX200 adopts the centralized switch mode. All data packets are sent to the switch module of the SCU, that is, the primary switch chip. The chip switches the packets and then sends them to corresponding interface modules. The primary switch chip has a standard Layer 2 Ethernet switch function. It switches the packets according to their source and destination MAC addresses. The switch unit supports the Layer 2 switch and protocol, and enhances the Layer 2 services by providing the features of: VLAN MPLS Interface unit Besides a console interface, a 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet electrical interface (that is, the MEth interface), the SCUB, SCUC, and SCUD also provide different types and numbers of service interfaces: The SCUC: provides twenty-four 100 Mbit/s Ethernet optical interfaces. The SCUB: provides twenty-four 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet electrical interfaces. The SCUD: provides sixteen 100 Mbit/s Ethernet optical interfaces, eight 10/100 Mbit/s auto-sensing Ethernet electrical interfaces, and two 1000 Mbit/s Ethernet optical interfaces.

The SCUB provides a console interface and twenty-four 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet electrical interfaces. Every 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet electrical interface has a LINK/ACT indicator on the SCU, as shown in Figure 4-4. The indicator of LINK/ACT 1 indicates the status of No.1 interface in the lower row. The indicator of LINK/ACT 2 indicates the status of No.2 interface in the upper row.
