HISTORY OF HSBC BANK


HSBC stands for Hongkong and Shanghai Banking

Corporation . It was founded by Scotsman Thomas Sutherland in 1865 . It is the world's second largest banking organization and ranks sixth in the world as the biggest company. In India, the Bank offers a comprehensive suite of world-class products and services to its corporate and commercial banking clients as also to a fast growing personal banking customer base.

HSBC Holdings plc is a global banking and financial

services company headquartered in London, United Kingdom. As of 2011 it is the world's second-largest banking and financial services group and secondlargest public company HSBC is a universal bank and is organized within four business groups: Commercial Banking; Global Banking and Markets (investment banking); Personal Financial Services (retail banking); and Private Banking.

SWOT Analysis OF HSBC BANK


STRENGTH : The bank is well capitalised. The level of capitalisation means that, going forward, the bank is unlikely to need to borrow from the any government. The bank has a strong presence in emerging markets

The banks global presence in Europe, Asia and South

America helps to spread risk. The HSBC brand has become well-established.

WEAKNESS
HSBC associates itself strongly with investment in the

small business sector. The bank was involved with sub-prime markets in the US. HSBCs branding emphasises its global presence, and this may be seen negatively by some customers.

OPPURTUNITIES
HSBCs high level of capitalisation places it in a strong

position to acquire assets. Banks finding trading conditions particularly difficult at present may be available at low cost. Negative press coverage of competitors may encourage customers to choose HSBC instead.

THREATS
Trust in banks has decreased due to financial losses .
Financial losses affecting banks and investors on a

global scale have resulted in less credit being available to customers. The falling property market has created a rise in numbers of homeowners with negative equity.

POLITICAL ASPECT : HSBC Banking has been protected by the regulations and policies formulated by different government in the countries where they are operating. The company has been able to adhere to the policies given by each government.

ECONOMIC ASPECT
Being the world's largest and competitive industry in

terms of banking and finance, HSBC, is said to have a stable and successful economic stability. In spite of many dangers that they encounter in different parts of the world, the management of HSBC sees to it that they would be able to surpass such struggles and strives to have a better economic condition.

SOCIAL ASPECT
HSBC is being affected by the situation of the society

in which they are operating. Along with this, HSBC tries harder to make sure that each society is given equal chances to take advantage of the resources given by the organisation.

TECHNOLOGICAL ASPECT
The emergence of information technology and

internet affects how HSBC has been operating in the past years. The company adopts different IT/IS systems and used internet to reach their customer all over the world and to know the latest trends in the global business.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE BANK


In 1980, HSBC acquired a 51% shareholding in Marine

Midland Bank. In May 1999, HSBC continued its US acquisitions with the purchase of Republic National Bank of New York for $10.3bn. Expansion into Continental Europe took place in April 2000 with the acquisition of Crdit Commercial de France, a large French bank for 6.6bn.

In July 2001 HSBC bought Demirbank.


In August 2002 HSBC acquired Grupo Financiero Bital,

SA de CV, Mexico's third largest retail bank for $1.1bn. In September 2003 HSBC bought Polski Kredyt Bank SA of Poland for $7.8m. In June 2004 HSBC expanded into China buying 19.9% of the Bank of Communications of Shanghai.

In June 2004 HSBC expanded into China buying 19.9%

of the Bank of Communications of Shanghai. In April 2006 HSBC bought the 90 branches in Argentina of Banca Nazionale del Lavoro for $155m.

In December 2007 HSBC acquired The Chinese Bank

in Taiwan.
