Upon the completion of this topic the student will

be able to know
• The list of basic specifications of ideal OP – AMP
• Definitions and typical values of the following ideal
OP – AMP specifications
• Voltage gain
• Input and output impedances

AEI 505.3 To 4 2
Objectives contd..

• Bandwidth
• Input offset voltages
• Input offset currents

AEI 505.3 To 4 3
Specifications of ideal OP - AMP

• Voltage gain = ∞ (infinity )

• Input impedance = ∞(infinity)

• Output impedance = 0 (zero )

• Output voltage when input is zero = 0

AEI 505.3 To 4 4
• Bandwidth = ∞ (infinity)

• CMRR = ∞ (infinity)

• Slew rate = ∞ (infinity)

AEI 505.3 To 4 5
Definitions

Voltage gain :

• It is the ratio of output voltage to the differential input

voltage.
• Voltage gain = output voltage / differential input voltage
V0
A
Vid
• Typical voltage gain = 200,000.

AEI 505.3 To 4 6
Definitions contd..

Band width:
• It is the range of frequencies for which the gain remains
constant.
• Bandwidth = FH – FL
Where,
FH = upper frequency limit

FL = lower frequency limit

• Typical bandwidth value = 1MHZ
AEI 505.3 To 4 7
Definitions contd..

Input offset voltage:

• It is the voltage applied between the two input

terminals to get output zero.

• This voltage could be positive or negative

• Typical input offset voltage for 741C = 6mv

AEI 505.3 To 4 8
Definitions contd..

Input offset current:

• It is the difference between the two input currents
into two input terminals.
• Iio = | IB1 – IB2 |
Where
IB1 is the current into the non inverting input
IB2 is the current into the inverting input
• Typical input offset currents for 741C = 200 nA

AEI 505.3 To 4 9
Definitions contd..

Input impedance:
• It is the total resistance measured at either input
with other input terminal grounded.

• Typical value for 741C 1M Ω

Output impedance:
• It is the total resistance measured between the
out put terminal and ground.

• Typical value for 741C 75 Ω
