Recap

In the previous class we have studied about

• Application of OP-Amp as Voltage to current

converter

AEI 505.26 2
Objectives

Upon the completion of this topic you will be able to know

about
• Introduction to voltage to current converter

• Internal circuit description of voltage to current converter

AEI 505.26 3
Interaction and discussion

• What is a voltage to current conversation

Definition

Op-amp may be used to design

A circuit whose input voltage is converted into a proportional

output current .such a circuit is called Voltage to current

converter.

AEI 505.26 6
• It shows a voltage to current converter using RL
as floating load

• The input voltage is applied to the inverting input

terminal
• The feed back voltage across the R1 drives the
inverting input terminal
• It is also called as current series negative feed
back amplifier

AEI 505.26 7
• Righting kirchhoffs voltage equation for the
input loop
Vin  Vid  Vf

As A is very l arg e Vid  0

 Vin Vf

Vin
Vin  R1 i 0  i0 
R0

That is the input voltage Vin is converted in to an output

current of Vin/R1

Voltage to current converter using
grounded load

AEI 505.26 9
• The figure shows another version of voltage to

current converter

• One terminal of the load is grounded

• Load current is controlled by an input voltage

The OP-ampisconnectedinnoninvertingmode

The gainof the circuit is givenby

V0 R
Af = =1+ =2
V1 R

The output voltage is

V0 =2 V1 --------------(2)

Substituting(2)in(1)

Vin =ILR

AEI 505.26 12

This shows that the load current depends on the input

voltage Vin and resister R
