 It is necessary to transmit a variable to a certain distance

for further processing, such as from site to control room

 Process variables measured not available locally

 Then the variables are converted to pressure signal for

easy transmission via differential pressure

 The pneumatic transmitter as shows in the fig 1.

 When the process pressure increases, it causes the

beam about ‘F’ to move against ‘R’ through ‘B1’

 Thereby causing the beam to move closer nozzle N

 The pressure Po increases, which again is fed back

though ‘B2’

 A torque balance will be arrived at finally and it will be to

a large extent decided by the spring,

 Which in many cases is replaced by another bellows

element fed from a regulated supply pressure for range

adjustment

 In this type of transmitter the differential pressure is

transmitted through the force beam about the pressure

seal pivot.

 This pressure produces a force at the upper end of the

beam proportional to ΔP this in turn produces a force at

b as shown in the figure 4

Movement – balance pneumatic transmitter consists of

 The input bellow and the balancing bellow are placed on

the left and right hand sides of the beam

 When the force is applied to the input bellow, the baffle

move towards the nozzle

 As the nozzle becomes covered, the back pressure

builds up in the back pressure compartment.

 This pressure can be read from the pressure gauge

 The increasing pressure in the balancing bellow causes

an increased force on the right end of the beam

 This balancing force tends to move the baffle away from

the nozzle.
