• The magnetostriction effect is the phenomenon of

expansion or contraction

parallel to its length.

• The change in length is a function of the magnitude of

the field and nature of the material.

• It is independent of the sign of the field.

• The frequency of vibration of the rod will be twice the

frequency of the applied magnetic field.
