Judaism is a monotheistic faith, meaning that Jews believe there is only One God. Often this God is beyond our ability to comprehend, but God is nevertheless present in our everyday lives. How individual Jews choose to understand this manifestation of the divine varies. Some connect with God through prayer, others see the divine in the majesty of the natural world, others may not think about God on a daily basis. Each individual's relationship with God is unique and personal

Humankind Was Created In the Divine Image Judaism teaches that every person (Jewish and non-Jewish) was created "b'tzelem Elohim," which is Hebrew for "in the image of God." For this reason every person is equally important and has an infinite potential to do good in the world. People have the freewill to make choices in their lives and each of us is responsible for the consequences of those choices.

Moses receiving the 10 Commandments on Mt Sinai

Community Judaism believes that Jews are uniquely connected with each other. Regardless of where we live in the world, all Jews are part of a global Jewish community.

Torah The Torah is Judaism's most important text. It contains stories and commandments that teach us about life and death. It contains the 10 Commandments as well as the 613 commandments (mitzvot). All Jews consider the 10 Commandments to be the most important commandments in the Torah, though not all Jews adhere to the 613 mitzvot (one of the main differences between the different branches of Judaism).

The 10 Commandments in words

The Jewish people have maintained a presence in Jerusalem every since King David established the city as the capital nearly 3,000 years ago. Except for a few years when the Jewish people were forcibly barred from living in the city

Jerusalem is the religious home not only for Judaism, but also for Christianity and Islam Jerusalem is the place Jesus was brought to as a child to be presented to the Temple and attended festivals Jesuss Last Supper took place in the upper room in Jerusalem

According to the bible the Israelite history with Jerusalem begins around 1000 BC with King David. The name was changed to City of David and became the capital of The United Kingdom of Israel Jerusalem was the capital of Judah for 400 years before it was besieged by the Assyrians around 701 BC Jerusalem was again besieged by the Babylonians circa 597 BC

The history of the Jewish people begins with the story of Abram when God tells him to leave his homeland (Ur), promising Abram and his descendants a new home in the land of Canaan (Gen. 12). This is the land of Israel, named after Abrams (later Abraham grandson, whose descendantss are the Jewish people

The land is described as a good land and :a land flowing with milk and honey. Jews have lived continuously from the time of its original conquest by Joshua more than 3200 years ago until the present day. The land of Israel is central to Judaism. Jews were exiled from the land of Israel by the Romans in 135 BC after they defeated the Jews in a 3 year war, and Jews did not have any control of the land until 1948 AD

Israel

Whether the world likes it or not, the Bible tells us that God gave Abraham and his descendants all of the land of israel. Gen: 15: 8. God confirmed this yet again with Jacob Abrahams Grandson, whose name was changed to Israel in Gen 35L 10-12. Again in Deutoronomy God proclaims that Israel is the land he promised to Abraham isaac and Jacob
