DREIKURS LOGICAL CONSEQUENCES

Definition:
The teacher considers the motivation and goals of the student behaviour in the development of a management plan. A more humanistic approach than just focusing on discipline. The teacher then applies Logical Consequences to assist students in taking responsibility for their actions and behaviours.

DREIKURS LOGICAL CONSEQUENCES

Based on Alfred Alders concept that all behaviour had a purpose or goal, Dreikurs identified 4 student goals of misbehaviour: To seek attention To gain power To seek revenge for some perceived injustice To avoid failure

1. 2. 3. 4.

DREIKURS LOGICAL CONSEQUENCES

Logical Consequences: Must be tied directly to the misbehaviour Must not involve moral judgments Must distinguish between the deed and the doer Must be applied in a non-threatening manner Must present choice for the student

PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT
All four models share the following principles:

The teacher is responsible for maintaining classroom control.

GOALS OF MISBEHAVIOUR
TO SEEK ATTENTION Example: Disturb or tease other students, Speaking with other students shout the answer Annoying behaviour Knocking on the table for no reason

TO GAIN POWER
Example: Reluctant to cooperate being stubborn Intentionally violate the rules set Does not obey to the instructions given Shows disruptive behaviors that can lead to teachers anger

TO SEEK REVENGE
Students think teachers do not act fairly. Example: steal, Purposely fight with other students vandalisme Passive revenge such as: withdrew, moody, generally ignores, do not get involved with activities etc. shows inability

TO AVOID FAILURE
isolation, Does not participate in group work Does not mix around with other classmates No participation in any activities Fail to do activities instructed

b) The second idea presented by Dreikurs: The importance of creating a democraticclassroom Dreikurs emphasized the goal of education is to help students establish self-control (the wellbeing of all students in the class). Pupils form a self-restraint when they display initiative, make rational and responsible behavior.

A DEMOCRATIC CLASSROOM
Always talk in a positive form Encourage students to work towards progress, not perfection Focuses on students strengths rather than weaknesses Help students to learn from mistakes Encourage independent and responsible qualities Showing faith in students Encourage students to help each other Showing appreciation to the students Optimistic Provide encouraging feedback .
