Teenagers and Employment

Should Teenagers Work?


They do. In asking we are asking if this is good or bad for them. Whatever teenagers do is to be inspected. Adults want to measure and consider adolescent behavior. They are worried about them. What does the question Is it bad for them? mean?

Long or Short Term


Immediate or long term problems. Whether they should work is a long term question. An impact on your ability to do schoolwork. This will impact your grades and your future. The immediate danger is a long term danger.

Fear of Long Term


Long term dangers are about what sort of person you are going to be. To be successful is something that means something specific in our society. We like to think that we are broad in our thinking about success. What we really mean is being self-sufficient in a good job. We want our teenagers to succeed in this way.

The Pressure of the Measure


This causes anxiety for everyone including teenagers. In your house: do you have to go to university or college? What is the impact of all this social science attention? Where is the pressure coming from?

Fear and Apprehension


We want to teach and we use fear as our provocation. Apprehension and fear are not helpful. They produce fear and apprehension. Which we conquer with a certain understanding of success.

Success
If you dont think about success, call that success. Free from the measure of others, free of what you are to have accomplished. Sounds good but it is impossible. The right to be afraid. Love and fear. Fearing for and loving our teenagers. Alienation and isolation.

Good and Right


A law? Or without content? A feeling not a fact. Is your home a place where success is considered differently than it is in the rest of the world?

Jobs
Teachers: working interferes with schoolwork. Parents: working teaches the values of work and of money. An important step in maturity. Character building. How is this done?

Education
What does education mean? Does it mean learning how to perform success? Deepened by all experiences. Participation in life is good for all types of education. Modern education has to fill the students head with their material. You do their work. It is about telling you what to be.

Criticisms of Work
Wasting time that should be spent on school. Wasting time that should be spent on selfdevelopment. Creating negative views about work. Cause stress. Develop a materialist understanding. Negative adult behaviour.

Merits of Work
Learning what it is to work. Learn how to save. Future based merits. The teenager is being trained.

Materialism
Materialism is connected to certain notions of what constitutes success. Motivated by the wealthiest peers teenagers want to present a like image. On average, need is a $1000 a week. ! How does this happen? Does it develop or suddenly occur?

Three Types of Adolescents


1) Those who are self-entertained and rarely bored. 2) The athletic and out-going types. 3) Those who need to be stimulated by external forces. Natural and learned behavior. The third group is the challenge. Independence of self? Same version of success?

Sample Question
The main concern expressed about adolescent employment is: A) that it will impact their ability to excel in their studies. B) that it will give them a false sense of independence. C) that it will lead to promiscuity and drug use. D) that it robs them of their ability to be young.

Sample Question
According to lecture, the question of whether teenagers should work is a question that represents: A) serious economic concerns within our society. B) the premise that teenage freedom is complicated. C) the perception that everything that teenagers do is to be investigated. D) the care of educators to prepared adolescents for success.
