In an Automobile or Aerospace industry , For building a vehicle or plane CAD and CAE Place Major role. CAD : Computer Aided Designing CAE : Computer Aided Engineering

In the process of Designing a vehicle, group of Engineers are divided to different Sub systems of a vehicle. Example: Different subsystems of a vehicle * Chasis * Body * Engine Assembly * Steering Assembly ..

For Every Subsystem a group of Engineers are going to handle the Designing and Analysis of that subsystem.

In the process of Designing


An Engineer starts the new model of a part by 2-D hand drawings.

From the above Drawings CAD group is going to model the parts in to 3-D design By using different CAD Soft wares.

CAD designers finalize that design of a part by using Different Soft wares like * CATIA * PRO - E * Uni Graphics * Solid Edge . Etc.

Cad team sends the designed 3-D cad data to the Analysis Team.

Analysis Team Collects the required Input Data from the project management or Client.

Analysis Work Starts

Analysis : Analysis is nothing but to Analyzing or Estimating each component of The working mechanism or failure of that part.

Analysis :
In CAE Field there are 3 steps to perform Analysis

1. Pre-Processing 2. Solving 3. Post-Processing

For Every process we have Different Soft wares and Different procedures To follow that soft wares.

Pre-Processor :
pre-processor is nothing but to prepare and setup the part or a Sub-System in virtual state (means in Software) as per the real time Physical state conditions. * In pre-processor we can setup the loads and constraining boundary conditions as per the real time vehicle conditions.

Pre-Processors:
its a Basic required software for any type of analysis. we have different pre-processors are available in the CAE field. 1. Hyper mesh 2. ANSA 3. VCD(Visual Crash dyna)

From the above soft wares all OEMs ( BMW, Benz, General Motors) are mostly recommended for the ANSA and Hyper mesh.

Solver :
After completion of the model setup as per the vehicle conditions, we will give that model to the solver. Solver will start the loading As per the given data and it will analyze the stresses , strains and Reactional forces in that component. finally solver will write the Analysis results in a post processor readable format. We have different solvers for different type of analysis. Ex: For Crash analysis LS-Dyna , pam-crash Durability Analysis Abaqus , Nastran NVH Analysis Nastran Thermal & Fluidic Analysis Ansys ..etc

Steering Link _ Model Buckling Analysis

Post-processing:
After getting the results from solver we have to check that the Part is animating properly or not. If it is working properly the analysis is correct. We have to report the analysis results to the chief engineers . They will check these results with the physical test results. Post processing tools: 1. Hyper view 2.Meta post

Particular Sub system group will Analyze these results and calculate the life of that part or a sub system.

if the life of that part is not meeting the target life of a vehicle, that part design will not go for the production. Based on the Analysis team suggestions the cad group will start the new fusible designs.
